New Alpha 60 store opens
We’ve had Melbourne on our mind of late.

Living proof: Alpha 60. Brother-sister duo Alpha 60 designers Alex and Georgie Cleary have just opened their sixth store. Their salute to popular culture is a constant source of inspiration for the label, think iconic films Buffalo 66, The Ice Storm, Twin Peaks, and definitively, Jean-Luc Godard’s 1965 cult classic Alphaville.

Expect the same sophisticated quirk known of the six-year old Melbourne-based Alpha 60. A collection fit for any wardrobe – structured pieces matched with beautiful silk or fine merino, a cardigan with a big long scarf, a classic garment with print or pattern element to make it interesting.

But enter each store and you’re welcomed by a different celluloid muse who gazes watchfully from the stores’ crisp white walls. Each boasts a different fit-out pending what’s their favourite thing du jour. This time its dolls heads – the type left to a wicked demise at WW1 German toy factories. Just look up and you’ll spot 350 light replicas of them.

The Cleary siblings wanted their newest Alphaville store to look museum-like.  So wander around the glass cabinets filled with Alpha60 jewellery and accessories. Peruse apothecary dome jars filled with cushions (more art in fact than artefact) with Mick Jagger, Anna Karina, River Phoenix; “All the people you want to wake up in bed next to”, Alex says.

Purchases in lieu of donations are welcome.
