Butter, real butter. Full fat cream. Sugar. All the good stuff. Salivating? We are. Jillian’s Cakery in Surry Hills brings old school baking back to Sydney. No substitutes. No preservatives or pre-mixes. Just good old American sweet treats.
A sunny, bright cafe with an open kitchen, you can’t enter Jillian’s Cakery on Elizabeth Street without drooling. It’s just not possible.
Not too long ago, Jillian Butler worked in insurance, but she smelled the roses, or should we say freshly baked cake, and decided to pursue her passion. These days she and her team are kept busy creating custom cakes for celeb clients, along with cinnamon scrolls, brownies and cookies for the cafe.
Inspired by her husband Kerry’s Texan roots, Jillian’s cakes are comfort food to a tee – the Pecan Pie is a sticky caramel, nut-topped tart that’s gorgeously gooey, while the towering white-frosted red velvet takes the classic cake to new levels. Pumpkin Pie, based on a good old Women’s Weekly Cookbook, is another local favourite, along with a decadent dairy free vegan chocolate torte.
Whether you’re celebrating, in need of a 3pm pick me up, or just some good old comfort cake, don’t walk past Jillian’s.
