We all have a sweet tooth, somewhere inside us. Some may be more prominent than others, but there’s always a sweet that can tempt any palate. Bibelot from the team behind Chez Dre (General Manager Kirsten Andrell and Head Chef Andrea Reiss) is set to be the new dessert destination to find just the right sweet treat for your tastes. Found in the entrance to the South Melbourne café Chez Dre, Bibelot (which means a small beautiful and rare object) is going to be a lot more than a dessert café.
It’s an artisanal patisserie, a gelateria, a coffee bar, and a chocolate shop. It doesn’t stop there with the sweet temptations. Bibelot will also double as a high tea destination and, in something of a first, a library of coffee table books filled with books on chocolate and patisseries that you might not have been able to get your hands on before. Plus there is a retail space for take-home treats for those who are good at delayed gratification (unlike us). You’ll be able to get your hands on bars of chocolate, chocolate covered fruit and nuts, biscuits, honey, and coffee and tea. Perfect for gifts, either for you or for someone else.
So what has our mouths salivating in the café? Petits gâteaux, bonbons, macarons, and hand crafted biscuits all made with a strong nod to European techniques using high quality ingredients. The attention to detail is mind blowing.
The space, which has been designed by Melbourne’s Breathe Architecture serves up a lot of custom mosaics by Fabian Scaunich, recycled timber floors in the cafe area and polished concrete in the display area, bright gold drawers, and plush green couches. Plus custom designed product display cases hand crafted in Italy, by Isa. Isa, people!
We expect South Melbourne to be in a constant sugar coma from now on.
