Burritos, baby, burritos!
Here’s Sydney’s Mexican Food Guide. Provecho!
Mejico
Market-to-table Mexican is their catch cry and they definitely do bring the market to the table. Start your meal with tableside guacamole – choose your ingredients and watch them get smashed up in a mortar and pestle right at the table. Make sure you’re hungry; the ceviche raw bar, quinoa salads, tacos, small plates, big plates and desserts are all worth perusing. Buy tickets for Mejico’s Cinco de Mayo Fiesta for canapés, music and margaritas, from $55.

Flying Fajita Sistas
You haven’t eaten Mexican in Sydney if you haven’t spent an evening working your way through the Wall of Pain at this Glebe Point Road institution. Ok, ok, the Wall of Pain chilli sauces are not for the feint hearted. Taco and Tequila Tuesdays are always fun. And with a brand new menu, the first in several years, there’s never been a better time for a trip down memory lane.

Harpoon Harry
Breathing new life into a Surry Hills pub isn’t the only thing this bar publico has been doing. The Hotel Harry’s public bar is now home to a Latin barbacoa from Chef Paul Wilson that’s drawing in the big crowds. Especially for Cinco de Mayo. The mixed grill is where you want to concentrate your efforts food-wise and you can’t go past the margaritas or the cuba libras on the cocktail menu.

Cantina Bar
Yes, a Balmain restaurant that’s serving parmas and pub meals! Modern Mexican dishes are on the menu; think spicy tomato and chorizo soup and charred chilli corn and lime aioli. Now these guys know how to celebrate Cinco de Mayo – $10 margaritas and $5 tacos all night. If you’re not going to make it tonight, don’t panic. The $10 margaritas make an appearance for weekend Mexican brunch, Saturdays and Sundays from noon.

Beach Burrito Company
From Bondi Beach to Newtown, this is fast, fresh Mexican fare that always hits the spot. Whether you’re walking up wet and salty from North Bondi or have been perusing the shops along King Street, grab a seat, order a frozen mojito and a (healthy!) burrito bowl and settle in.
