La Micia Cooking

The fact that Keryn Ursi didn’t start life as an expert in Italian cooking makes it all the more appealing.

Thanks to Italian in-laws and a three-year immersion in the culture and cuisine at Italian cooking and language school, Rocca dei Malatesta, Queensland-born Keryn meshes traditional, home-style techniques from her Nonna Marianna with tips from the professionals and brings it to Melbournians via her La Micia cooking classes.

The ingredients, the pots and pans and the utensils are all hers, which means the washing-up is someone else’s problem. Presto. All that’s left after one of her at-home classes is the shared knowledge of authentic and delicious recipes and the food – enough to feed a swag of friends, Italian-style.

Choose from eight different Italian-based menus to create a three-course lunch or dinner of pasta, main and dessert. La Micia supply the aprons and the head-scarves to ensure the mood is right, and even brings portable bench-space if the host kitchen is too compact.

You get to spend two hours together having fun, digesting information and the food – perhaps involtino di pollo, verdure al gratin, tiramisu, or home-made tagliatelle with ragu – is worth the wait.
