Lidz is the brand new Newtown café/shop designed for sports fans – particularly fans of American sports.
Former art director Alan McArthur has poured his passion for American sport into this small space – from the astro turf to the diamond motif that stretches along the counter.
Now just in case you’re not up on your sport terminology, don’t worry, we weren’t either. A lid is another name for a hat. Like cool sneakers, lids are a style statement.
Alan and his team will happily fill you in on all the jargon. At any given time the store has more than 200 caps displayed on the main wall. They’re the team hats from six different leagues. There are 9FIFTYs, snapbacks, flexifits, even cap carriers for collectors caps (we’re betting Pharrel Williams has a few of these in his crib). Like we said, people are serious about their lids.
Basically, your boy will be a kid in a candy shop. Especially when he sees the couch, faux grass carpet and TV screens up the back, which will be playing the big American games all year long. Oh, and there’s Wii Baseball to play too.
Single Origin Roasters with your Caps
Any American baseball fan will tell you a quintessential part of a game is the chili dog. Lidz is determined to recreate the vibe as close as they can, with their own MACS Chili Dogs.
Also the brainchild of Alan, the MACS Chili Dogs come with all the toppings – sauerkraut, jalapenos, cheese, onion, mustard and plenty of chilli con carne.
Don’t worry, there’s also goodies like authentic Hershey’s chocolate, Black Star Pastry brownies and Single Origin Roasters coffee up for grabs. The drip-fed coffee is going to change your mind once and for all about American coffee.
