Filling the spot that has been home to one of Sydney’s most famous breakfast cafes is not for the feint hearted.
LUXE Bakery’s brand new café has found a home in Woollahra’s Queens Court, aka, the old Bills café and they’ve already made their mark. The paint’s still fresh on a very pink facade but inside the courtyard, the colour is diluted by cute awnings, comfy lounge seats and plenty of outdoor heating.
Many a family, group of friends, couples, singles, just about every foodie in Sydney; has been to Bills for breakfast. The hotcakes were legendary and the scrambled eggs sublime – so how do you top that?
Well, you can still get your Bills fix in Surry Hills and Darlinghurst, and now it’s all about poached eggs and a seriously decadent bakery cabinet.
If you can make it past the freshly baked muffins (think rhubarb, apple and raspberry or ricotta and blueberry), mini chocolate tortes and flaky ham and cheese croissants, the kitchen is doing a fine job of fusing hearty brekkys with a wholesome, healthy mindset.
Try gluten and dairy-free five grain grits with grilled banana, rhubarb and coconut yoghurt (a 2014 porridge), breakfast bruschetta that’s served with fresh lettuce and shaved parmesan, or the popular mushrooms, feta and toast.
ps. LUXE Bakery is a big name in Sydney’s bread scene so toast solo is totally justified.
