Ah Redferndria. That odd semi suburb where the streets blur between Alexandria and Redfern. Something magical is happening in Referndria.
From Fratelli Fresh and Cipro Pizza al taglio to Bread and Circus, the cusp of Alexandria is turning into a foodie fringe scene for jam packed Redfern’s restaurants and cafes.
Queue in the reopening of the Lord Raglan Hotel. Google Maps says Alexandria, the website says Redfern, we say it’s the perfect combination of the two.
The Rocks Brewing Company has brought the industrial chic concrete floors and metal cage lights of Alexandria to the shell of a famous Redfern pub. Local graffiti artist Avery Clark has tagged one wall with a cool mural and in the corner are two pin balls machine – no pokies here.
The kitchen is still under construction but by the end of the month they’ll be pumping out Buffalo wings, nachos and hot dog sliders. Yep, mini hot dogs.
What’s most important at the Lord Raglan isn’t the interior or the food – it’s the beer. 16 rotating taps showcase the Rocks Brewing Company’s beers and a few other local craft beers. The family-owned brewery is keen to showcase the best in the craft business, stocking only craft beers from Australia and around the world on tap and in the bottle. They’ve got high chairs, not stools, at the bar so you can settle in and peruse the range.
Ladies, bring your men here for guaranteed brownie points.
