The virtuous Admiral Cheng Ho

feature

Admiral Cheng Ho was an explorer during the Ming Dynasty.  During his naval expeditions he offered gifts in the form of China’s finest teas. Well we like fine teas too, right? The Admiral heard our prayers and has opened a specialty tea and coffee house in Abbotsford. While the Chinese Admiral from yesteryear had nothing to do with this cafe the people behind Monk Bodhi Dharma in Balaclava, owner Marwin Shaw more specifically, did. They have brought together fair-trade teas, single estate coffee and a menu that caters to the health conscious and taste seekers alike.

The Cheng’s Granola is a raw mix of nuts seeds and sweet goodness topped with seasonal fruit and house made organic hazelnut milk. It’s divine. If you’re really wanting to push the virtuous treats for breakfast angle, try the Banoffee Pie, a mix of banana cream, Ethiopian Nekisse coffee mousse, marinated banana, macadamia nut crumble and raw white chocolate. Crazy, right? We know.

If you’re just after a cooked, more approachable meal the Avoca Ho – avocado tossed with feta, mint and lemon served on sourdough is one of the best smashed avos going around.

We’re hooked on a perfect cup of coffee sitting so closely to a breakfast that makes you feel healthier just by looking at it. And it tastes just as good.
