St Valentine’s Day is upon us again. Either it makes you all warm and fuzzy and evokes images of flowers and chocolate or is makes you feel a little ill with all the mushy stuff in the air. Regardless of how this day makes you feel, we’ve got a few liquid events that will keep you busy. Loved up, or with a best friend.
For the Wine lover
Things are changing out at Chandon’s Winery. A new menu at Greenpoint Brasserie, the winery’s onsite restaurant is bringing in things like Slow cooked duck leg, confit potato, broccolini, cherry and black pepper glaze with a pinot gel, Potato and leek tart with Yarra Valley Persian feta, roasted cherry tomatoes and roquette, and Tuna Nicoise with slow cooked egg yolks, potato, beans, herbs and a mustard emulsion. But the real kicker here is the new picnic hampers that can be ordered in advance and enjoyed in the property’s lawn. Hampers include paté, Serrano Jamon, kalamata olives, and salted caramels that are worth their weight in gold. Hampers cost $150 for two people. Wines can be purchases on top of this.
For the Tea drinker in all of us
Eau de Vie, one of our city’s finest cocktail bars is having some fun with tea throughout the month of February. Nature’s Cuppa organic tea has teamed up with the bar to present four unique drinks including one mocktail, for those of us participating in FebFast. We’re looking forward to trying the Green Harvest, a mix of Riesling, citrus vodka, lemon, strawberry jam, Nature’s Cuppa Green Tea and a touch of honey.
For the Beer buff
When it comes to beer, we love a craft brew and something new. Beer Deluxe, known for their selection and their new beer garden are one of very few venues to be serving Carlton Draught fresh and unpasteurised beer on tap. Those who make the brew are saying that aside from tasting it straight from the brewery, this is as good as it gets. Beer DeLuxe will receive a weekly delivery of the stuff meaning there is plenty to go around.
For the Cocktail lover
The team down in The Understudy below 1806 loves their degustations. For Valentine’s Day they will be busting out a four-course degustation with matched food bites from their brand spanking new menu. Expect the weird but mainly the wonderful with this one as they use smoke and mirrors, literally, to make their concoctions.
