Australian Open 2014

2011 Australian Open - Day 10They say The Melbourne Cup stops a nation, but there’s nothing like the feeling of The Australian Open in Melbourne. Suddenly everyone is into sport and knows all the ins and outs of tennis. Even those who never watch another sporting match within the year get excited. Some of us can relate to that.

From the 13th to the 26th of January, we lose sleep watching five setters, get burnt cheering on the player of the moment and sip many a brew in the beer gardens. And we love it.

This year Rafael Nadal is sitting pretty as number one seed with Roger Federer down at number six in the men’s singles. Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova are still dominating the top of the leader board in the women’s singles. We’re thinking there will be a number of interesting games to be had.

The Heineken stage will be serving up live music across the event including Owl Eyes and the lovely Claire Bowditch while the beer garden and many bars will keep those with outdoor passes entertained between matches.

If you feel like some tennis action away from the main event, Melbourne Central and Nike are bringing some tennis fun to the CBD with the Melbourne Central Rooftop Tennis Club.

Level 3 at Melbourne Central will be a hub of action where customers can watch the live Channel 7 broadcast while getting some sun.  You can even have a hit on the Nike tennis court. The Rooftop Tennis Club, which will be free and open to the public between 13-26 January, from 11am – 7.30pm.

Game, set, and match.
