If you were asked to meet someone at ‘Spooning Goats’, you might be forgiven for believing you are about to enter a sexually deviant ‘Red Room of Pain’ inspired by the book trilogy phenomenon Fifty Shades of Grey.
Truth is you might have just as much fun, but the toys on offer extend to a gaming set up of a classic 1980’s Atari console and chessboard tables. Despite the welcoming street graffiti art, everything is retro here from the wallpaper and orange chairs to the well worn tartan sofas your grandpa would love.
It’s all the handy work of Jason Newton who left a lifetime of facilities management to follow his dream. The combo of his beloved granny’s lifetime collection of spoons and an ‘I love goats’ badge discovered at a local market inspired the bar (note: no live goats are roaming the premises).
The NSW based beer list is growing by the day with microbrews such as Endeavour Pale Ale, Dalgety Blonde on offer along with a fine cider list of cuties such as Lobo and The Hills. Wine lovers will enjoy curling up with Running Bulls Tempranillo, no two retro glasses will be the same.
Feeling peckish? Pies rule here. The imaginative fillings are made off premise exclusively for S.G. and are cooked to order in a pie press on site. Moroccan Chicken served in porcelain bowls hits the spot and the Grazing Plate with Tassie smoked Ocean Trout and Persian feta helps fill up any remaining hunger holes.
So summon your inner Pac Man skills and invite a buddy to rev up their retro diva. With live music starting on Thursdays you may just find Spooning could be the new way to make new friends.
