Two figures in the darkness prowl around one another, their eyes locked in sensual combat. The violins start playing, followed by the unmistakable bandoneón (hand organ). They dance to the rhythm of the country’s renowned musicians of Tango from the Conservatorium of Music.
The audience is transfixed and everything tells you this is just like the milongas of Buenos Aires, from the boys behind the bar with their white shirts, black bow ties and braces, to the portraits of dancers adorning the walls.
Sip on a cocktail straight from the streets such as Capa Rojo, a blend of Don Julio tequila and Malbec-based Sangria. Watch as the spotlight trails the couple to the other side of the room where their moves change to a Neo rhythm as the DJ mixes ‘electro-tango’ beats.
Feeling hungry? Try serves of golden Empanadas, Choripan (slices of soft baguettes topped with spicy chorizo and chimichurri) followed by the nation’s favourite, Lomito (glorious steak sandwich filled with caramelized onions and salsa).
Don your dapper suit or strut your slinky gold heels together with a thigh high slashed skirt and rock up at Zeta Bar for a fabulous Friday night of South American adventure.
