Like and old pair of jeans that only get better with age – the kind you dig out from the back of your wardrobe wondering why you’ve neglected them for so long – Watsons Bay Hotel is calling for some renewed love and attention.
Now named Watsons Bay Beach Club, Sydney’s iconic harbourside watering hole boasts all the same awesomeness; cracking water views, sundrenched terraces, big balconies. But now it has new owners, fake grass, a sea of Basil Bangs umbrellas, ping-pong and a rather gorgeous looking staff contingent hustling about in blue and white striped Bassike uniforms. Why hello there sailor!
Gather a posse and go for a long Sunday session, live tunes and order a James Squire apple cider on the rocks. Choose a bucket of fresh prawns to get the taste buds dancing before devouring a devilishly good portion of beer battered fish and chips. Other notables include grilled salmon cutlet with fennel, raddish and citrus salad, and the ‘Watto’ beef burger with chips.
Go for a chilled beach club vibe and mingle among the crowd of well-heeled women with oversized sunnies and checkered-shirt men donning chinos and boat shoes.
Make time to reacquaint yourself with this old friend, she’s worth it.
