Surry Hills’ Cleveland Street just got a little cooler, with the revamp of a Sydney institution – the old man pub.
The Norfolk is a sprawling watering hole, complete with remixed sports bar, mezzanine bistro and beer garden, that manages to maintain its old-school vibe, yet feel a whole lot edgier, thanks to Melbourne designer Mike Delaney (Honky Tonks, Duke Bistro, The Flinders)’s vibing-yet-casual stylings.
Just down the road from meat mecca Porteño, The Norfolk already has locals in the know locking up their fixies outside and settling into the internal courtyard oasis to share a jug of Peruvian sangria or a tequila cocktail, courtesy of Nick Hattingh (Stick Bar, Table for 20)’s mad skills behind the bar.
Take a trip around the Americas with Duke Bistro chef Thomas Lim’s snacks and shared plates menu – the pork belly sliders, soft shell tacos, grilled corn and cerviche all deserve a look in – while Aussie pub staples remain respectfully treated.
Ride, don’t run, to this new generation pub that stays true to its roots.
